Current Activity
Vrok is a recent arrival to Telflamm, having only been in the city for a few months. He claims to be in the city looking for his "uncle", a dwarf by the name of Albernase, who was also a merchant that helped supply Vrok's home, a small village called Haven near Thay Mount.
He currently has a room at The Drunken Bishop, which is run by another dwarf named Remus.
Recently, Vrok has fallen in with a group calling themselves The Scions of Thay, whose mission seems to be freeing the people from the oppression of the Hell Knights and the rulers of Thay. It appears that many other people have vanished recently, and Vrok hopes that by helping the Scions he may find some clue as to what happened to his uncle.
Vrok's Personality
Vrok Spar is, overall, a jovial and cheerful person. He can be crude and crass, and always enjoys a good drink (maybe too much so), but he's also a stalwart and dependable companion. Like many orcs, he respects strength and power. However, he does not like to see power abused and will often intervene when he feels that someone is being bullied or taken advantage of. As such, he's known for getting into scuffles with thugs as well as law enforcement of "questionable" morals. While he wields a rather formidable great-ax, he knows when and where to use it. He prefers to "beat some sense" into people, and will never kill, that is unless provoked. He knows that his behavior, although indirectly, reflects on orcs and those of orcish decent, so he never engages in unnecessary bloodshed.
At the same time, he knows what it's like to be discriminated against due to his heritage. Despite this, he generally keeps a positive attitude. Also, he has a tendency to be trusting of other "half breeds", living by the philosophy that you should judge people by their actions and not by their heritage.
Other than that, Vrok is a budding adventurer. He loves a good challenge is keen on the idea of experiencing new and exciting things. If he makes a few gold out of it and helps a few people out at the same time, all the better! All in all, Vrok is an excellent companion for anyone willing to accept him, and a powerful obstacle for any who try to cross him.
Vrok's Background
Vrok Spar is the result of an unusual union. His mother, Sorka, was a well-know orcish mercenary. Known as "The Bonecrusher", due to the giant two-handed maul that is her weapon of choice, she is feared and admired by those who deal in the mercenary trade. Currently, though, she has "retired" to some extent. She new leads a small orcish village in a remote forested area surrounded by mountains. Having seen the societies of the other races, and the prejudices they have against her people, she has take great strides in attempting to form peace with those who consider Orcs to be "primative savages". So far, everything has gone well, and her village have positive, although tenuous, relations with the other races in the area. Although the village is isolated, merchants and even adventurers occasionaly make the difficult trek there. The orcs of Sorka's tribe are still highly valued as mercenaries skilled in the art of physical combat. In addition they are fairly well known for their blacksmithing skills and their more "artistic" crafts are highly valued by the more eccentric population of wealthy people. So, while isolated, they are not completely cut off from the outside world.
Vrok's father, Davram Xar, a powerful sorcerer and an accomplished adventurer in his own right. He is somewhat more mysterious in his origins and not much about his past is known, but the meeting of him and Sorka is as odd as their union. Years before Vrok was born, Sorka's village of orcs was attacked by a group of Illithid. The mindflayers sought to enslave the orcs and use them as slaves. Sorka and her people fought valiantly, but they had trouble fighting against the mindflayers' psychic assaults. By pure chance, Davram wandered into the scene. He came to the aide of Sorka and the other orcs and helped drive back the Illithid assault. After routing the attack, Davram and Sorka together took the fight to the Illithid. Together, the managed to slay the mindflayers and guarantee the security of the village. The two fought well together and, impressed by one another's strength and tenacity, they fell in love. The other orcs of the village were skeptical of such a union, after all Davram was not only an outside, but not an orc. However, the dissent was quickly quelled after several of the elder male orcs, each who sought the eye of Sorka themselves, were easily defeated by Davram in duels (an orc tradition). Although his methods seemed strange and he lacked the physique of an orc, none could deny his strength. The rest of the village accepted him, although grudgingly, as Sorka's mate.
And out of that union, Vrok Spar was born. He posses both the physical prowess of his mother as well as some of the abilities of his father. Like all orcs, he was trained in the physical aspects of combat and showed great skill. At the same time, his father tutored him in the use of his other special abilities. Vrok also inherited his mother's spirit and wanderlust. Although Sorka was reluctant to see her son go, she understood his desire to see the world outside his village. When both she and Davram were satisfied with his ablities (he had already bested all the other orcs in the village), they allowed him to leave and seek his own way in the world. Sorka's only stipulation was that he not return until he make a name for himself.
When Albernase's caravan was several months late from it's normal arrival, it seemed as good a time as any to start his own journey. With the blessings of both his mother and father, he set off to Telflamm to find his wayward uncle and start his own story at the same time.
